A public available Sora? Kwai unveils Kling and its quality is mind blowing
a potential game-changer
Recently, Kuaishou Technology, a leading content community platform in China, launched its self-developed video generator, the Kling (可灵) Large Model. This innovation has captured global attention with its groundbreaking video generation capabilities, outshining many domestic competitors and even rivaling Sora.
Kling can generate videos up to 2 minutes long in 1080p resolution with a frame rate of 30fps. Moreover, it was made available immediately upon release, and users can apply for beta testing through its “Kuaiying (快影)” App. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to beta test Kling and couldn't wait to dive in.
Let's start by showing a comparison of some official videos:
Based on our experience, Kling's video quality is virtually on par with Sora. Next, we will compare Kling with Pika and Runaway Gen-2, two of the most popular video generation models on the market.
Wide-Angle Video
Prompt: A tsunami sweeps across the globe, demolishing houses, leaving a wasteland of debris on the sea. The video is in high-definition.
Prompt: Skyscrapers in the city have turned into ruins, with thick smoke everywhere and raging fires burning.
From the footages above, Kling's video generation delivers the most realistic effects, perfectly capturing the physics of both the turbulent waves of a tsunami and the thick smoke of a battlefield. Runway Gen-2 comes next, producing content that, while realistic, is limited to just smoke. Pika's output is the least convincing, with flames that appear as mere overlays, failing to integrate seamlessly with the buildings.
Character Close-up
Prompt: A beautiful woman doing a mukbang, eating fried chicken.
When it comes to generating videos of people, the results are on entirely different levels. Kling's output is the best, almost indistinguishable from real footage. In contrast, Runway Gen-2 and Pika are roughly on par with each other, neither successfully depicting the action of "eating." Their videos are riddled with distortions, deformations, and errors.
Animal Close-up
Prompt: A white Chinese rural cat and an adult Labrador playing together on a gray carpet next to a living room sofa, rich in detail, realistic style, with ambient lighting.
Prompt: A rabbit police officer and a fox wearing a shirt and sunglasses taking a selfie in an ice cream shop, surrealism, anime style, 3D.
In terms of animal video generation, Kling takes first place. The backgrounds, as well as the animals' expressions and movements, are incredibly realistic, with the interaction between the cat and dog closely mimicking real life. Runway Gen-2 comes in second; while the initial frame looks promising, the ongoing issue of lacking proper motion remains. Pika ranks third. In the first set of videos, the dog completely disappears, and the cat's skeleton is severely distorted. However, the second set of videos closely resembles Nick and Judy from Zootopia, suggesting that the training material likely included scenes from the movie.
Quick Effects Shot
Prompt: A spaceship enters a rotating wormhole, with surrounding starlight twisting and time and space seemingly frozen in that moment.
In first place, Kling's effects shot is highly stable, providing a fast-paced first-person perspective that is deeply immersive. Runway Gen-2 ranks second, with slower motion and some distortion. Pika comes in third, as its generated video does not align well with the prompt.
Conclusion
Our tests reveal that Kling consistently delivers high-quality videos across a range of scenarios—whether capturing wide shots, close-ups, people, animals, or special effects. Kling demonstrates a profound understanding of the prompts and maintains stable output, significantly outperforming Runway Gen-2 and Pika.
Currently, in its beta phase, Kling is limited to generating 5-second videos. However, we eagerly anticipate its official release, where it is expected to create videos up to 2 minutes long in one go.
Many of the videos produced by Kling are so realistic they could easily be mistaken for real footage. Should Sora delay its launch, Kuaishou's Kling has the potential to secure a dominant position in the market. We highly recommend keeping an eye on Kling and supporting its development.
