Day 1 for Qwen3.8: OpenRouter, OpenCode and More Are Already On Board
On August 3, Alibaba released Qwen3.8, its next-generation foundation model. Coding and agent performance both jumped, and the model now sits among the strongest anywhere. The same day it shipped, a string of major platforms added support for Qwen3.8-Max: API aggregators, agent tools and developer platforms including OpenRouter, OpenCode, Hermes Agent, Command Code, Vercel, Novita, Charm and DeepInfra.
Three of those, Hermes Agent, OpenCode and Command Code, are among the most-used AI agent and coding tools right now, and each turned on support at launch. Developers can reach Qwen3.8 straight through tools they already work in, so the model lands in front of a much wider set of users. On the serving side, OpenRouter, Novita and Vercel brought Qwen3.8-Max online the same day, so teams can run it without extra plumbing and take it into real enterprise workloads.
The headline number is the size: Qwen3.8 has 2.4 trillion total parameters, 95B of them active. It handles a 1M-token context along with visual input, and can run autonomous coding and long-horizon tasks end to end. On TextArena, which scores core text ability, it ranks second only to Claude. It came fourth on CodeArena for coding and second on Vision Arena for visual work. Alibaba says Qwen3.8-Max will be open-sourced next week, the first time it has done this for a Max-tier model, with Qwen3.8-27B released at the same time. Alibaba has now open-sourced more than 400 Qwen models. Derivatives worldwide top 200,000, downloads have passed 1 billion, and Qwen remains the largest open-source model ecosystem going.
